I recently attended a mid-singles fireside in which the speaker, Shane Krauser, discussed the Constitution. At the end of his presentation, he referenced the quote of the Constitution “hanging by a thread”. I wanted to post what the Church’s stance is on this statement, found in what is referred to as the “White Horse Prophecy.”
“The so-called ‘White Horse Prophecy’ is based on accounts that have not been substantiated by historical research and is not embraced as Church doctrine.”
The sources available for this quote have been in question by many historians, and, although the quote has been referenced by Church leaders as being from Joseph Smith, they haven’t offered a clear-cut definition as to when this single, identifiable event will occur. (In fact, some Church leaders have, such as President Joseph F. Smith during the October 1918 General Conference, stated that it is “simply false; that is all there is to it.”).
